Win or lose next Monday, Mike McCarthy's status as the head coach of the Dallas Cowboys is not in jeopardy, owner and general manager Jerry Jones told Shan, RJ and Bobby Tuesday morning on 105.3 The Fan.

But Stephen A. Smith isn't buying what Jerry's selling.

Shortly after Jones' appearance on The Fan, ESPN's 'First Take' played the audio from our interview with the Cowboys owner. As they were returning from a commercial break, host Molly Qerim was preparing to toss the subject of Jones' comments to either Keyshawn Johnson or Herman Edwards to discuss when Smith jumped in and alleged that the Cowboys owner wasn't being forthcoming with us or fans of the organization.

"Ladies and gentlemen throughout America, Jerry Jones is lying to you. He's lying. (If) Mike McCarthy loses this game, Mike McCarthy is going to get fired. I don't give a damn what anybody says," Smith said on First Take. "We know how I feel about Jerry Jones, but let me be very, very clear - I'm going to say it again, I don't mean to be offensive, (but) he's lying."

During his interview with 105.3 The Fan, Jones expressed disappointment in his team's performance against Washington on Sunday but said he has no plans to move on from his head coach.

"No. I don’t even want to – no. That’s it,” Jones said when asked if there was an outcome Monday that could result in McCarthy losing his job. “I don’t need to go into all the pluses or minuses, but I’ve got a lot more to evaluate Mike McCarthy on than this playoff game.”

Only time will tell if Smith turns out to be correct, but the Cowboys can put this to bed by beating Tom Brady and the Buccaneers on Monday Night Football.
