Stephen Jones reacts to reports that teams are interested in Mike McCarthy

NFL insiders Adam Schefter and Jay Glazer created a stir on Sunday when they reported that Mike McCarthy would have suitors this offseason should Jerry Jones not bring him back, or if McCarthy wants to leave the Cowboys on his own.

"When I say maybe, it's not that he's not deserving," said Schefter. "It's that it goes both ways. Number one, Jerry Jones has to decide I want to renew him, and McCarthy has the ability to go talk to whoever he wants about a head coaching job. So he can go listen to the New Orleans Saints, where he's coached before. He can go listen to the New York Jets or any team that has an opening and wants to talk to him."

Glazer also pointed out that McCarthy is out of a contract and "is on other teams' coaching lists if the Cowboys decide not to re-sign him."

Cowboys EVP Stephen Jones was asked about those reports during his weekly Monday visit with the K&C Masterpiece on 105.3 The Fan.

"It doesn't surprise me a bit, Mike's an established head coach in this league. He's won a Super Bowl and been to multiple championship games," Jones said. Obviously, we had a tough start with the Covid year and followed that up with three 12-win seasons. And this year's been a challenge for the obvious reasons with injuries."

And could interest from other teams have an affect on McCarthy's future in Dallas?

"We'll address all this after the Commanders game," Jones said.

Jones also addressed the team's performance against the Eagles, Jourdan Lewis' future, if Trey Lance could play this Sunday against Washington, and more.
