The 1st Round of the 2025 NBA Draft started out on 92.9 FM ESPN with the straightforward annoucement of the Top 10 in order:
1. Mavericks draft Cooper Flagg (Duke)
2. Spurs draft Dylan Harper (Rutgers)
3. 76ers draft VJ Edgecombe (Baylor)
4. Hornets draft Kon Knueppel (Duke)
5. Jazz draft Ace Bailey (Rutgers)
6. Wizards draft Tre Johnson (Texas)
7. Pelicans draft Jeremiah Fears (Oklahoma)
8. Nets draft Egor Demin (BYU)
9. Raptors draft Collin Murray-Boyles (South Carolina)
10. Rockets draft Khaman Maluach (Duke) – Traded to Phoenix
That's when ESPN quickly announced that a trade was happening sending the Grizzlies #16 pick this year, the 2028 Orlando 1st-round pick acquired in the Desmond Bane trade, and two future 2nd-round picks for the #11 Portland pick.
The Grizzlies landed Cedric Coward. In Coward, Memphis grabs a 6′6″ 3-and-D wing from Washington State whose journey from Division III to the first round is nothing short of inspiring.
