Western Conference Playoffs Round 1: Memphis Grizzlies vs. Oklahoma City Thunder on 92.9 FM ESPN

The Memphis Grizzlies suffered a historic 131–80 defeat to the Oklahoma City Thunder in Game 1 of their Western Conference playoff series on Sunday, April 20, 2025. The 51-point margin marks the fifth-largest in NBA playoff history and the largest ever in a series opener.

Oklahoma City's top-ranked defense stifled Memphis early, launching a 23–2 run in the second quarter to seize control. Despite MVP candidate Shai Gilgeous-Alexander scoring just 15 points, the Thunder's depth shone through, with Aaron Wiggins leading with 21 points off the bench, and Jalen Williams adding 20. Chet Holmgren contributed 19 points and 10 rebounds, while Isaiah Hartenstein added 14 points.

The Thunder capitalized on Memphis' 24 turnovers, converting them into 24 points, and dominated fast-break points 27–5. Grizzlies stars Ja Morant and Jaren Jackson Jr. struggled, combining for 8-of-30 shooting and 1-of-10 from three-point range, as Memphis shot just 34.4% overall and 17.6% from beyond the arc.

Interim coach Tuomas Iisalo acknowledged the poor performance, while Morant vowed, "We'll never play like this again."

Game 2 is set for Tuesday at 6:30 p.m., with expectations of a stronger showing from Memphis. Pregame at 6:00 p.m. on 92.9 FM ESPN.
