Darryn Peterson’s decision not to work out for the Utah Jazz appears to be rooted in his belief that he will be selected No. 1 overall by the Washington Wizards. Multiple reports indicate Peterson has limited his pre-draft meetings to Washington, signaling confidence in his draft position rather than concern about Utah. Kevin Cerrito took calls about Peterson on Tuesday's (6/16) 92.9 FM ESPN J&J Show. AUDIO:

From a Memphis Grizzlies perspective, Peterson would be an intriguing fit if he somehow slid to the No. 3 pick. The 6-foot-6 guard averaged more than 20 points per game at Kansas and possesses the size, shot creation, and perimeter shooting to complement Ja Morant. Peterson projects as a potential franchise-level scorer who can create his own offense late in games, something every contender covets.

Comparing Peterson to Cam Boozer, the difference comes down to ceiling versus versatility. Peterson has the higher offensive upside and could develop into an NBA superstar if his game translates fully. Boozer, meanwhile, offers a more polished all-around forward skill set, high basketball IQ, rebounding, and positional flexibility.

For Memphis, Peterson would likely be the preferred target because elite shot-creators are harder to find. Boozer projects as a potential All-Star forward, but Peterson has the type of offensive talent that can alter the direction of a franchise. If available, he would be difficult for the Grizzlies to pass up.
