Chris Herrington from the Daily Memphian was on the Geoff Calkins Show on 92.9 FM ESPN on Tuesday (5/27) and discussed Jaren Jackson's status having not made All-NBA list for 2024-25 season.
AUDIO:
Jaren Jackson Jr.'s omission from the 2024–25 All-NBA teams carries significant financial implications for both him and the Memphis Grizzlies. Had he been selected, Jackson would have qualified for a five-year, $345 million supermax extension starting at 35% of the salary cap. Without that honor, the Grizzlies are limited to offering a four-year extension worth approximately $147 million, beginning at 140% of his current salary.
This development complicates Memphis's offseason plans. While the team can still pursue an extension, Jackson might opt to test unrestricted free agency in 2026, where he could command a more lucrative deal. The Grizzlies' recent trade of Marcus Smart was aimed at creating cap space, potentially to facilitate a renegotiation and extension for Jackson. However, with Jackson's All-NBA snub, the team faces the challenge of securing his commitment without the leverage of a supermax offer.
