On May 1, Indiana State Police pulled over 7-foot-4 Grizzlies center Zach Edey in Tippecanoe County, Indiana, after clocking him at 101 miles per hour in a 55 zone while driving his Kia Sorento. In a probable cause affidavit, Edey told officers he was speeding to safely pass another vehicle. The incident occurred around 7 p.m. on State Road 25.
He was officially charged with misdemeanor reckless driving on June 11, and is scheduled for a hearing on June 23 in Tippecanoe Superior Court. The charge carries potential legal consequences, separate from his recent offseason ankle surgery, which is likely to sideline him at the start of the 2025–26 NBA season.
Jeffrey Wright, Kevin Cerrito, and George Ruggiero discussed the news on 92.9 FM ESPN's Jeffrey Wright and Company show on Wednesday (6/18).
