Dallas Mavericks star guard Kyrie Irving has been ruled out for the remainder of the 2024-2025 NBA season after suffering a torn ACL in his left knee during a game against the Sacramento Kings Monday night (3/3). The injury occurred in the first quarter when Irving landed awkwardly following a drive to the basket. Demonstrating resilience, he remained on the court to sink two free throws before exiting in visible distress.
This season, Irving, a nine-time All-Star, averaged 24.7 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 4.6 assists per game.
His absence compounds the Mavericks' challenges, as they recently traded Luka Dončić to the Los Angeles Lakers for Anthony Davis, who is also sidelined with a groin injury.
Currently holding a 32-30 record and sitting 10th in the Western Conference, the Mavericks face an uphill battle to secure a playoff spot amid these significant roster setbacks.
Meanwhile the Memphis Grizzlies will try and "right the ship" against the juggernaut first-place Oklahoma City Thunder on Thursday (3/6) at 8:30 p.m. (pregame at 8:00 p.m.) on 92.9 FM ESPN. Friday the Grizzlies play in Dallas at 6:30 p.m.
