The Memphis Grizzlies dropped their 11th game of the season against the Victor Wembanyama-less San Antonio Spurs 111-101. Of course the Grizzlies were playing shorthanded without Ja Morant. Geoff Calkins discussed the loss with Daily Memphian Reporter Chris Herrington on Wednesday's (11/19) show on 92.9 FM ESPN (AUDIO):
Tuesday (11/18) the Memphis Grizzlies fell 111-101 to the San Antonio Spurs in a game that slipped away late at the Frost Bank Center. The Grizzlies, now 4-11, showed fight with a third-quarter surge, outscoring the Spurs 40-37 to erase an early deficit and lead 87-86 entering the fourth. But cold shooting and turnovers doomed them, managing just 14 points in the final frame while San Antonio (10-4) closed on a 25-14 run.
Cedric Coward paced Memphis with 19 points and 11 rebounds, while Vince Williams Jr. added 14 points, 9 boards, and 9 assists. Cam Spencer chipped in 15 off the bench, but the team shot a dismal 40.4% from the field and 30.8% from deep, with 14 turnovers.
For the Spurs, De'Aaron Fox exploded for 26 points, Harrison Barnes dropped 23, and Keldon Johnson added 18. San Antonio's 48.3% shooting and stout defense—holding Memphis to 55.6% free throws—sealed the deal. A tough road loss for the Grizzlies as they head into a grueling stretch.
