Wells and Edey from Grizz are NBA Rising Stars All-Star selections

Memphis, Tenn. – The NBA today announced that Memphis Grizzlies center Zach Edey and wing Jaylen Wells were selected to play in the 2025 Castrol NBA Rising Stars. Wells, Edey and the Grizzlies take on the Houston Rockets Thursday (1/30) at FedExForum at 8:00 p.m. live on 92.9 FM ESPN.

The annual showcase of top first- and second-year NBA players and NBA G League standouts – featuring a mini-tournament with four teams and three games – will take place as part of NBA All-Star Weekend on Friday, February 14, at Chase Center in San Francisco and will air live at 8 p.m. CT on TNT.

Edey (7-3 ¾, 299) has appeared in 33 games (26 starts) and has averaged 9.6 points, 7.5 rebounds and 1.2 blocks in 20.8 minutes while shooting 58.0 percent from the field and 38.9 percent from 3-point range since he was selected ninth overall in the 2024 NBA Draft. The 22-year-old Toronto native ranks second among qualified rookies in rebounds, fourth in blocks and fifth in scoring average after winning consecutive National Player of the Year awards at Purdue. He set an NBA rookie record by recording a positive plus-minus in 15 straight games played from October 31-December 27.

Wells (6-6 ½, 206) has competed in 47 games (42 starts) and has averaged 11.7 points, 3.2 rebounds and 1.7 assists in 26.1 minutes while shooting 43.9 percent from the field, 38.8 percent from 3-point range and 84.1 percent from the free throw line since he was drafted 39th overall in the 2024 NBA Draft out of Washington State. The 21-year-old California native, who was named the Western Conference Rookie of the Month for October/November, leads qualified rookies in games played, starts, scoring average, field goal percentage, 3-point percentage and free throw percentage.

New for 2025, the winning Rising Stars team will feature in the NBA All-Star Game mini-tournament on Sunday, February 16, competing against NBA All-Stars. WNBA legend Candace Parker will serve as the honorary GM of the Rising Stars championship team, known as Team Candace.
