On Tuesday (6/13) ESPN's Pete Thamel issued a full Big 12 "deep dive" outlining Big 12 movement and where Memphis stands.
Here's Thamel on Memphis:
It is instructive that Big 12 commissioner Brett Yormark denied meeting with Memphis about joining the conference but hasn't denied contact with Colorado and UConn. For now, the Memphis interest remains strongest on Memphis' side, as they are just part of the Big 12's whiteboard of potential additions.
You can read the full report from Pete Thamel here from ESPN:
Essentially it looks like Colorado and UConn have an inside track to the Big 12, as well as other "four corner schools" like Arizona, should they decide the move from the Pac-12 to the Big 12 makes sense based on TV deals and more.
Tuesday (6/13) on 92.9 FM ESPN's Jason & John Show the guys discussed Memphis and the Big 12 report from Thamel here:
The "tidal wave" of Big 12 discussion was reignited in Memphis last week after "College AD" reported a Big 12 visit to Memphis. Later on Friday (6/9) CBS' Dennis Dodd said in this interview with the Gabe Kuhn Show on 92.9 FM ESPN that the Big 12 Memphis visit "didn't happen". Thamel later backed up that report with his own quote from Big 12 Commissioner Yormark saying there was no Memphis visit.
