JB Smiley says the city might deserve a seat on the University of Memphis board should they "allow" the proposed stadium deal, including the $50-Million Dollar Fred Smith donation (contingent on stadium turnover to the University of Memphis), to go forward. The Daily Memphian and Memphis Commercial Appeal have both done extensive reporting and coverage this week on the topic, much of it centered around power and the council being out of the loop on the deal, orchestrated by Mayor Strickland. Of course the stadium actually operates at a "loss" for the City of Memphis.
