The Memphis Tigers men's basketball team broke into the AP Top 25 Monday following their impressive performance in the Maui Invitational. The Tigers showcased resilience and firepower, starting with a dramatic 99-97 overtime victory over No. 2 UConn, the reigning two-time national champions. Guard Tyrese Hunter was instrumental, scoring 26 points, including seven three-pointers, while PJ Haggerty added 22 points and crucial late-game free throws to seal the win.
In their next game, Memphis defeated Michigan State 71-63, securing a spot in the tournament's championship round. Hunter again led the charge with 23 points, including clutch shooting late in the game, while Haggerty and Colby Rogers provided solid contributions.
Despite losing to Auburn in the Maui championship game, the Memphis Tigers now enter the Associated Press Top 25 for the first time in 2024-25 at #16.
