Stokes on Davey O’Brien Great 8 for Second Week in a Row
FORT WORTH, Texas – For the second week in a row and third time this season, University of Memphis quarterback Marcus Stokes was named to the Davey O’Brien Great 8, the Davey O’Brien Foundation announced on Monday.
Stokes continued to etch his name in the Tiger record books after Memphis’ 49-22 win over Army, becoming the first player in program history to account for five or more touchdowns in back-to-back games. Against the Black Knights, Stokes threw for four touchdowns and ran in another, finding Jermane Hayes and Jemyri Davis twice each.
Last Saturday marked Stokes’ fifth 300-plus passing yard performance and third in a row. He also tied his career high in completions of 29, which he set the week prior against East Carolina, en route to recording his best completion percentage (82.9 percent) of the year.
In his first season with the Tigers, Stokes has led the fifth-best offense (513.3) and second-most efficient passing attack (178.06) while being tied for the national lead in passing touchdowns (25), and top five in passing efficiency (178.5), passing yards (2,532) and yards per pass attempt (9.78).
