Memphis Takes Down Temple on the Road, 45-21
PHILADELPHIA – The University of Memphis football team earned a 45-21 victory on the road against Temple on Saturday afternoon at Lincoln Financial Field. The Tigers (9-3, 6-2 AAC) became just the 10th team in program history to win nine or more games in a season and just the fourth in school history to win five road games in a year.
Junior quarterback Seth Henigan led Memphis against the Owls (3-9, 1-7), completing 18-of-28 passes for 250 yards and four touchdowns. In the game, Henigan became the program’s all-time leader in career completions (814).
Running back Blake Watson rushed 15 times for 95 yards and score, while reeling in four catches for 39 yards and another score. On the day, Watson became just the eighth Tiger to rush for 1,000 or more yards in a season (1,045) and posted the 12th 1,000-yard rushing year in school history.
Brandon Thomas had nine carries for a season-high 76 yards and a touchdown, while fellow running back Sutton Smith notched his first career receiving score. Wide receiver Joseph Scates had four catches for 78 yards, including a 54-yard touchdown on the first play of the game.
Linebacker Chandler Martin had five tackles, an interception and two pass breakups, while Geoffrey Cantin-Arku and defensive back Greg Rubin each led the Tigers with seven tackles each.
Memphis extended its NCAA-leading streak of consecutive games with 20 or more points to 26 in the win. Over that stretch, the Tigers have averaged 37.2 points a contest.
The Memphis Tigers will now await their bowl fate, which will be announced on Sunday, Dec. 3rd on 92.9 FM ESPN.
