Geoff Calkins discussed Brent Rooker and the MLB 2025 All-Star game on Wednesday's (7/16) 92.9 FM ESPN "Geoff Calkins Show":
Brent Rooker had a breakout moment in the 2025 MLB All‑Star Game. Pinch‑hitting in the top of the seventh, he launched a thunderous three‑run homer to left‑center field off Randy Rodríguez, ending a six‑run deficit and narrowing the score to 6–3 . His 407‑foot blast made him only the fourth Oakland A’s player ever to hit a homer in an All‑Star Game and tied the A’s single‑game RBI record by matching Jimmie Foxx with three RBIs .
But Rooker’s night wasn’t over. When the game remained tied after nine innings, MLB invoked its first-ever Derby‑style tiebreaker. Rooker was selected as part of the AL’s trio and belted two homers on his three swings, giving the AL early momentum. Although the National League eventually prevailed in the first MLB All-Star "Swing Off", Rooker’s combined four homers across the Derby and the Game against the NL—cemented his role as one of the event’s signature performers.
