No takers of the Ja Morant baggage at deadline… but hey, Eric Gordon is a Grizzly suddenly

The Memphis Grizzlies heard the noise leading up to the NBA trade deadline, but when the dust settled Ja Morant was still with the Grizzlies. Despite league chatter and speculation about whether Memphis could consider a blockbuster reset, the organization decided to play the waiting game on teams interested in a deal. The value came with the Jaren Jackson Jr. deal it appears.

Memphis did make a move, acquiring veteran guard Eric Gordon from the Philadelphia 76ers.

Memphis, Tenn. – The Memphis Grizzlies today announced the team acquired guard Eric Gordon and a 2032 second round draft pick swap from the Philadelphia 76ers for the draft rights to guard Justinian Jessup. In a related move, the Grizzlies waived forward Georges Niang.

Gordon (6-3, 215), an 18-year NBA veteran, has appeared in six games as a reserve this season and has averaged 5.5 points in 12.3 minutes for the 76ers. The 37-year-old Indiana native, who was named the 2016-17 NBA Sixth Man of the Year, has competed in 931 career regular season games and has averaged 15.2 points, 2.3 rebounds and 2.7 assists in 31.1 minutes for the LA Clippers, New Orleans Hornets/Pelicans, Houston Rockets, Phoenix Suns and 76ers since he was selected seventh overall in the 2008 NBA Draft.

Niang (6-6, 230), who was acquired by Memphis from Utah on Feb. 3, has appeared in 544 career regular season games (32 starts) and has averaged 7.4 points, 2.5 rebounds and 1.0 assists in 17.5 minutes over a nine-year NBA career with the Indiana Pacers, Jazz, Cleveland Cavaliers and Atlanta Hawks.
