Sam Pittman was relieved of his duties as Arkansas head coach following a disastrous 56–13 home loss to Notre Dame, leaving him with a 32–34 overall record and just 14–29 in SEC play.
The Razorbacks immediately launched a national coaching search, with several candidates including former head coaches and rising assistants being floated. In the meantime, offensive coordinator Bobby Petrino was named interim head coach. Petrino, who previously led Arkansas from 2008–11 before leaving amid scandal, now has a chance to audition for the permanent role.
