Tennessee delivered a gritty road win that helps keep them in the mix. Meanwhile, Arkansas, Georgia, Alabama, LSU all faced the usual gauntlet of rivalry and crossover matchups.
Tennessee OT Win
On Saturday, the Tennessee Volunteers edged out Mississippi State 41–34 in overtime. After trailing late, quarterback Joey Aguilar rushed in a 6-yard touchdown with under two minutes left to force OT. In overtime, running back DeSean Bishop delivered the decisive blow with a 25-yard touchdown run on the first snap. Meanwhile, Tennessee’s defense held strong, stopping Mississippi State inside the 5 to preserve the win.
Tennessee racked up 466 yards of total offense in the contest. Wideouts Mike Matthews and Chris Brazzell II each eclipsed 100 yards receiving.
Memphis Beats FAU
Elsewhere, the Memphis Tigers continued their strong run by defeating Florida Atlantic 55–26. Memphis’ Greg Desrosiers Jr. exploded for 204 rushing yards and three touchdowns, including a 90-yard run. QB Brendon Lewis also made his mark, passing for 196 yards and adding two rushing scores. The Tigers poured on 31 points in the fourth quarter to blow the game open.
SEC & Regional Notes
Georgia vs. Alabama was one of the biggest games on the slate; in a stunner, Alabama edged Georgia 24–21, snapping Georgia’s long home streak. Ole Miss and Texas A&M both kept rolling with wins on Saturday. Arkansas was hammered at home by Notre Dame.
