SMU buys their way into the ACC foregoing payments for several years (AUDIO: Geoff Calkins Show)

SMU, California, and Stanford are officially set to join the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) in 2024 at the beginning of the 2024-25 school year. The worst kept secret in college sports is official now, as stamped via social media by the conference and schools.

Essentially SMU bought there way in foregoing 9 years (and some sources say it's really 10 years) of payments from the conference, with Stanford and Cal yielding less than the full payment value (~30% or roughly $8 million).

Mike Aresco issued a statement on behalf of the American Athletic Conference, which includes Memphis, explaining the conference will not expand westward but will instead look elsewhere:
