ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - Oct. 27, 2011. Game 6. David Freese.

That's enough to give any St. Louis Cardinals fan chills.

St. Louis was three outs from elimination twice in this game – and even down to their last strike in the bottom of the ninth – but went on to win 10-9 in 11 innings.

Take a look back at the heroics by the St. Louis native in photos from Game 6 of the 2011 World Series vs the Texas Rangers:

Freese was the 2011 World Series MVP

It's the greatest postseason game in Cardinals history and possibly the best in baseball history. "You had to be here to believe it," Cardinals manager Tony La Russa said after the Oct. 27 game.

He hit .397 in the 2011 playoffs, with five home runs and 21 RBI

Before the walk-off HR in the 11th, Freese already became a hero with his game-tying triple in the 9th: "Initially I was like 'Are you kidding me? My first AB off Feliz in this situation ever,'" Freese said. "I just beared down, got a pitch to hit. Initially I thought I hit it pretty good, I thought (right fielder Nelson Cruz) was going to grab it, so just a lot of emotions on that one."

Freese graduated from Lafayette High School in St. Louis then one season at St. Louis Community College

The hometown kid said it reminded him of a game-ending home run Jim Edmonds hit in Game 6 of the 2004 NLCS: "Growing up or whatever, and you see stuff like that happen, those become memories," Freese said.

Remember The Shredder?

Nick Punto, the utility man in 2011 became known for tearing the jerseys off teammates in postgame celebrations.

Freese also won the Babe Ruth Award as the postseason MVP

Punto and company's shredding of Freese's Game 6 jersey had to be some of his best work. The torn jersey is now displayed in National Baseball Hall of Fame.

Personally, this is my favorite photo of the night

We have to point out the Gerald Laird running and leaping celebration. He's easy to spot as the entire team rushed out of the dugout after Freese's walk-off.

Can't wait to see Freese in the Red Jacket Club soon

"Just an incredible feeling, seeing all my teammates at the dish waiting for me," Freese said after the game.
