COOPERSTOWN, NY (KMOX) - As it turns out, fans will be able to see new Baseball Hall of Famers from the St. Louis Cardinals Larry Walker and Ted Simmons be inducted in person after all.
The Baseball Hall of Fame announced on Wednesday morning that the 2021 induction ceremony, which will honor the 2020 class that includes Derek Jeter, Walker, Simmons and Marvin Miller, will now take place on Wednesday, Sept. 8 at 1:30 p.m. in front of an outdoor, ticketed audience. The original plan was to make the ceremony a virtual event with no fans in attendance in late July.

“On behalf of our Board of Directors and our staff, we are thrilled to be able to welcome our Hall of Famers – the living legends – and fans back to Cooperstown to celebrate the Induction of the Class of 2020,” said Jane Forbes Clark, Chairman of the National Baseball Hall of Fame. “Returning the induction ceremony to an outdoor event will provide the baseball community with the opportunity to visit Cooperstown and celebrate the Induction of four of the game’s greats.”
All seating at typical induction ceremonies at the Clark Sports Center are free, but this year, tickets will be required, which will be made available to fans starting on Monday, July 12 at 11 a.m. Seating will be designated for vaccinated and unvaccinated ticket holders. Per the Hall of Fame’s release, planning will continue to be adapted to guidelines set by the Center for Disease Control and the State of New York.
The Hall of Fame’s annual awards event will remain an indoor and TV-only event on July 24. Both the awards event and induction ceremony will be shown on MLB Network.
