NEW YORK (KMOX) - The St. Louis Cardinals are now in a playoff position after an extra-innings victory on the road against the New York Mets. So all is well, right? Not exactly. A heated argument in the dugout caught the eye of many Cardinals fans last night.

It happened between catcher Yadier Molina and pitcher Daniel Ponce de Leon after the fifth inning. Ponde de Leon walked the bases loaded and threw a wild pitch. There were three mound visits by Molina before the 29-year-old pitcher was removed and the Mets took a 3-2 lead that inning.

After Molina returned to the dugout, the TV feed showed a heated argument between the pitcher and catcher.

First base coach Stubby Clapp pushed his way between Molina and Ponce de Leon, as bench coach Oliver Marmol jumped over a bench and also got between them. Some players kept their distance, others moved in to help.

"Things happen. You know, the heat of the moment. Nothing big at all,” Shildt said after the game. “Brotherly love. Cameras catch every little thing. Don't make a mountain out of a molehill because it was not that big of a deal.”

The argument was noted by many Cardinals writers and reporters:

St. Louis would go on to win 7-6 in the 11-inning contest, moving them into the solo second Wild Card spot. The Reds and Padres both lost Tuesday night, to give St. Louis a half-game lead.
