ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - For the first time since 1981, Major League Baseball will have a World Series featuring the Los Angeles Dodgers and New York Yankees.
After years of frustration and falling just short of yearly aspirations for a World Series title, both the Yankees and Dodgers are in the World Series and will face off against each other in the World Series for the first time since 1981 and the 12th time overall.
For the Yankees, it will mark the first time since 2009 they have reached the World Series. The Yankees do feature the likes of superstars Aaron Judge and Juan Soto, but the pitching has not been bad, with Yankees pitching overall posting a 3.27 ERA in the playoffs.
One of the notable standouts in the Yankees pitching staff is former Cardinals pitcher and Yankees reliever Luke Weaver, who is third among all Yankees pitchers in innings pitched this playoffs, behind only starters Gerrit Cole and Carlos Rodon.
For the Dodgers, it will mark the fourth time since 2017 they have reached the World Series and the first time since winning it all in the pandemic-shortened season of 2020. The Dodgers pitching have not been excellent these playoffs, posting an overall ERA of 4.36, but the hitting has more than excellent, hitting 20 home runs already and posting an overall slash line of .251/.346/.434.
One of the notable standouts in the Dodgers lineup is former Cardinals utility player Tommy Edman, who earned NLCS MVP honors Sunday night following the Dodgers series victory in six against the New York Mets. During the NLCS, Edman posted a slash line of .400/.393/.630, collecting 11 hits and 11 RBIs in 29 plate appearances. Edman becomes the latest former Cardinals player to earn LCS MVP honors, joining Adolis Garcia and Randy Arozarena among former Cardinals players to become a LCS MVP in recent years.
KMOX Sports Director Tom Ackerman, along with Matt Pauley, Kevin Wheeler and Bernie Miklasz got together for a roundtable discussion to talk about Edman's performance in the NLCS for the Dodgers, the World Series matchup between the Yankees and Dodgers, and some talk about the Cardinals and their payroll.
In addition, they also had some football talk and discussed the latest wins for Mizzou and Illinois.
