College Football Playoff Rankings: Bama In, UGA Out Is Wrong But Will Happen

This past weekend in college football was one of the most exciting we have had in recent memory.

Alabama versus LSU, Baylor in triple OT versus TCU; and Minnesota versus Penn State were all awesome.

However, now comes the time on the eve of the second College Football Playoff Committee rankings where we have to start getting serious about who deserves to go where.

Now, with Bama and Penn State losing this weekend, there is definitely going to be a shakeup in the rankings Tuesday right?

A couple of things to note here: Minnesota is over Clemson and Baylor because they have a top-5 win. That win over Penn State has to count for something. Penn State was the fourth best team in the country, according to the committee.

Clemson stays ahead of Baylor because they beat No. 12 Texas A&M while Baylor slides in at No. 5 because they are unbeaten and have a top-25 win over Kansas State University, who beat Oklahoma.

Georgia stays in front of Alabama and Oregon because they have a big win over Florida. Alabama comes in at No. 8 because they have yet to beat anybody ranked, but their loss to LSU is better than No. 9 Oregon’s loss to Auburn.

Now, that’s in a perfect world where the committee does not worry about the logo on the side of the helmet for ratings.

Here is what will happen tomorrow during the second CFP Rankings Show:

  1. LSU
  2. Ohio State
  3. Clemson
  4. Alabama
  5. Georgia
  6. Minnesota
  7. Oregon
  8. Utah
  9. Penn State
  10. Oklahoma
  11. Baylor

Yes, Bama lost, but come on folks. We all know that the committee is going to use the “eye test” to keep them in the top four. It’s good for business. Bama rates well and Bama versus LSU part 2, or Bama versus Ohio State in the Playoff will rate a lot better than LSU versus Minnesota, or Ohio State versus Baylor.

However, one thing this weekend did provide us is the knowledge that every team in the top 11 (besides Bama), still controls its own fate. Any of these top-11 teams I just mentioned can win out and go. Bama cannot without some help.
