Atlanta Hawks Head Coach Lloyd Pierce joined Dukes & Bell to talk about the atmosphere at State Farm Arena these days, Trae Young’s growth, plus he told the guys where the team has room to grow.

Pierce talked why the team is having so much fun despite being more than 20 games under .500.

“I would like to think it’s a bit of both. Our staff has tried to make it a fun work atmosphere, one where the players want to come in and put the work in and because of that work it’s becoming fun.”

Lloyd told the guys there’s still a lot of growth left for Trae Young.

“There’s a lot of work still left for a lot of our guys.” Pierce said “But were encouraged by a 21-year-old point guard who has played every game and breaking a ton of rookie records. So we’re encouraged by everything we’ve seen, but there has been a lot of veteran leadership as well.”

When asked if he was a defensive minded coach.

“That’s why you should never listen to the media.” Pierce said “I’m a basketball coach, our defense stinks right now and that’s part of the growth, when we get to the position to win more games that’s where we have to get better. This is when you find out if you have competitors on your roster, defensively we have to find out if we have real competitors.”
