During the Braves Chop Fest on Saturday Atlanta Braves GM Alex Anthopoulos talked about a conversation he had with Chairman Terry McGuirk who told him to continue to do whatever it takes to get the team over the top. The guys on Dukes & Bell discussed whether they feel the team has done enough yet to win a World Series.
Carl said he’s not satisfied with what the Braves have done during the offseason.
“If that was the case why didn’t you cut the check for Donaldson.” Dukes said “He said that they’re not going to spend excessively so it’s a little misleading to say that. Hamels $18, Ozuna $18 all the relief picthing you went and got Travis d’Arnaud that was 2 years for $16 million, they spent a lot. I’m not satisfied because I don’t know if this all the pieces we need to get there and win a World Series.”
Mike talked about how every team has spent money compared to the past few years.
“Major league baseball spending is up over 257% over last year it’s an incredible number.” Bell said “So everbody is spending, whether everyone was just being fiscally responsible the last few seasons, the Braves aren’t the only team that’s spending.”
