“Playing in Chicago whether the Cubs are good or bad is tough,” Murphy said. “The Bleacher Bums have always been tough. They had personal information about you, so playing a good team in Chicago is a good sign. So getting three runs off three hits are days you have to have because you’re not always going to just out score everyone.”
Murphy said that he likes Luke Jackson’s makeup.
“I think Luke has good makeup for a closer,” Murphy said. “He’s blown a few saves, but to me he’s got the makeup of a good closer and he’s got one of the best sliders in the league. Guys who have the burden of closing a game have to have a unique makeup. Your personality has to be rock-solid. He’s just a young closer and I credit him with bouncing back his last few outings.”
When asked if Dallas Keuchel is going to bounce back tonight...
“I think so,” Murphy said. “It will be a good test for him, he’s a control pitcher and he missed spring training so it’s going to take some time for him to get ready. I’m not worried about him the rest of the way. What I’m worried about is are we deep enough with pitching. Teams who win the World Series have to be really deep.”
