Free agent closer Craig Kimbrel remains unsigned as the 2019 Major League Baseball season is just a day away. There have been reports over the course of the offseason on Kimbrel potentially making a return to Atlanta.
The Braves selected Kimbrel in the third-round of the 2008 MLB Draft. He made his debut with the team in 2010 and remained with the organization until 2014.
John Smoltz joined Dukes and Bell on Tuesday sand said he was surprised Kimbrel was still available.
"Whoever gets Craig Kimbrel, unless it's a team that's rebuilding and looking for the future, has put themselves in a powerful position to win."
With the lack of big moves by the Braves this offseason, would adding Kimbrel ease that frustration?

— 92.9 The Game (@929TheGame) March 27, 2019"I'm excited for Braves baseball in 2019," Andy Bunker of the Midday Show said. "I would be more excited had more happened during the offseason. To me, if (the Braves) are able to pull this off between now and whenever, June 2nd--maybe a date we keep an eye on for Kimbrel--that would make me more excited about the year."
Randy McMichael believes it's about the number of years that Kimbrel and other teams can't agree on. But if he ends up signing for a three-year deal and it's not with the Braves, Randy said he'd be upset.
"I think bringing in a Kimbrel, it'd give you hope," Randy said noting Smoltz's comments that Kimbrel would make a team not just a division contender but a World Series contender.
"He's that impactful of a player...he's awesome," Randy continued. "He is that guy you would want on the back end if you have a young staff."
