As it has wreaked havoc on just about every facet of our lives, COVID-19 has pulled the plug on yet another event, the Summer Shade Festival in Grant Park. So for 2020, the Grant Park Conservatory (GPC) has pivoted to the Grant Park Summer Shade unFestival.
Instead of getting together to say goodbye to summer, the unFestival will happen virtually. And Eventide Brewing has a limited release beer to share in all the fun.
In collaboration with the GPC, Eventide has created Summer Shade Pale Ale, an American Pale Ale with juicy citrus and tropical notes. Think lots of fruit: orange, grapefruit, mango, papaya, stone fruit, along with hints of ripe berries.
Eventide and the GPC issued a community survey to Grant Park residents to come up with the style of beer. Eventide took the reins from there.
Six-packs are available Friday at the brewery, and draft can be had on Saturday in conjunction with the unFestival.
To take additional part in the unFestival, Eventide will project the festival’s live streamed musical performances, and have onsite food throughout the day.
TRY THIS
It’s getting really close to Oktoberfest season, and while the actual event isn’t happening, breweries are still making mouth-watering marzens. It’s an exciting time of year; my favorite style of beer. Line Creek is releasing a German Lager on Saturday called Festbier. It’s 5.7% with notes of caramel. Arches Brewing released its Festbier Friday, and canned it as well.
It’s getting closer to UGA football season, so let’s show Athens some love. Akademia Brewing Company announced two new beers this week. The first is 3 Shades of Black, a chocolate milk porter with maple bacon infused coffee and a touch of vanilla. They also released an India Pale Lager called Ov Wolf and Grüngeist.
Good Word Brewing in Duluth partnered with DSSOLVR in Asheville, NC to come up with a very limited release called Collapsing Realities. It’s actually a split-batch IPA release with some of the beer used to make Collapsing, a honey IPA, and Realities, a New England triple IPA with notes of orange marmalade, strawberry hard candies, grilled pineapple, and fresh honey.
Get Artistic is a 7.4% Berliner Weiss from Creature Comforts (speaking of Athens). It’s made with Sauvignon Blanc grape juice. 100% of the profits from this beer go into the Get Artistic fund.
Fire Maker Brewing Company introduces a new beer and flavor fusion every Friday. This week it’s their Chattahooch-Tea, a Southeastern IPA, infused with peaches.
The Next Big Thing #586 was released at Wild Heaven Friday. It’s a double dry-hopped New England Style IPA with an experimental hop (no name, just 586) added. Think tropical, think dank, and run if you like ruby red grapefruit notes in your IPAs.
