Audacy host Brad Steiner recently sat down with The Head and the Heart at the Hard Rock Hotel New York to discuss the band’s new music and more, breaking down how their unguarded lyrics can inspire more than emotional connections.

Diving into the vulnerability displayed in their catalog including their latest single “Arrow,” the idea of feeling something equaling being alive surfaces, and Brad wondered how the rest of band members react to such emotional tropes.
“I feel like we're used to it at this point… it never comes up as a big shock,” says Kenny Hensley.
Drummer Tyler Williams adds, “When you can latch on to something lyrically, it gives you a springboard musically too, from a drummer's perspective. You know, if I hear something that excites me, it gives me the energy to follow that thread.”
“I feel like the more heavy the lyric, the less it gets talked about,” says bassist Chris Zasche. “Sometimes when there's a vague lyric and everyone's like, ‘Well, I think this and I think that,’ but when something comes in super heavy, no one needs to talk about it… it hits.”
“You kind of just respect it. You don't try to change any lyric like that,” adds Hensley. “If you know it's something deep or heavy, you let it be what it is and move forward and just try to make the song as good as possible.”
