The Braves recently signed Charlie Morton to a one-year contract worth $20 million for the 2023 season, with a $20 million club option for 2024 that does not include a buyout. A move that doesn't stun anyone, but it could mean something deeper for this Braves team next year.

Abe Gordon, host of the Abe-T-L Show, dug into just what this signing could mean for the future of the Braves pitching rotation, and who may have played their last season in Atlanta.

Gordon called the move of signing Morton a $20 million an "insurance policy." Mike Soroka, who has torn his right achilles tendon in back-to-back seasons, has not taken the mound on over two years. Entering the final year of his contract, the signing of Morton makes Soroka's future with the team uncertain.

"Before Max Fried became an ace, it was Mike Soroka," Gordon stated. The 25-year-old pitcher is one of the best in the league when healthy. However, the emergence of Spencer Strider just adds to what is already a loaded rotation. With the five viable starters in place, Soroka could be the odd man out.
