Braves will DH Acuña for 'as long as it takes'

On Tuesday 92.9 The Game Atlanta Braves Insider Grant McAuley joined Andy & Randy to talk about a number of topics including if the Braves will continue to play Ronald Acuña Jr. as their designated hitter or if he will play right field again down the stretch.

“Ronald (Acuña) hasn’t played in the outfield since August 26th. Do you think that that’s the plan the remainder of the season? Is he going to be playing defense in the playoffs?” Andy asked.

“My understanding is that they (Braves) are going to DH Ronald as long as it takes to kind of calm things down and then start to maybe initiate a handful of starts in right field just to give him some reps here and there. I feel like we should see some of those start to pop up here in the next couple of three weeks especially like you said with the playoffs,” Grant replied.

“I mean you don’t want him to have not played the outfield in 45 days and all of a sudden hey it’s Game 1 of the Wild Card or the NLDS, congratulations you are back out there in right field. I would imagine there would be some uncomfortability, even if he has played the position his whole life,” Grant added.

Grant went on to answer Randy’s question about Acuña continuing to hit in the leadoff spot despite his up and down 2022 season. On the year Acuña is batting .269 with 11 homeruns, 39 RBI and 28 stoles bases in 102 games.

You can hear Andy & Randy Monday-Friday on 92.9 The Game from 11a-2p.
