To say that the start of the season for the 2025 Atlanta Braves has been tumultuous, may just be an understatement. Not only are the Braves winless through the first two series, there are very few signs of life on the team. Of the nine starters on offense from opening day, Marcell Ozuna has the highest batting average. That sounds great, and is expected after Ozuna had the highest batting average on the team last year at .302, which is a great average. The problem with Ozuna having the highest batting average on the team at the start of this season, is that his batting average is a paultry .188.
The biggest question mark coming in was the pitching staff, and they have pitched well for the most part, but have gotten no run support. It has been a rough couple of months for the Braves, going from Florida to Arizona to play the Cubs in a final Spring Training game for some reason, then went to Southern California for two series versus the Padres and Dodgers. You can say all that you want about excuses, and having to travel, but on team in the league had THAT travel schedule. The most popular stat being thrown around right now is that no team has ever started 0-7 and made the playoffs. The Braves actually started 0-9 in 2016 and finished dead last in the division, but they weren’t THIS Braves team.
While the 0-7 start is concerning, and even frustrating, it is by far not the end of the 2025 Braves season. The number that needs to be looked at in this situation is 5, or maybe even -5. The Braves are 5 games back from the Philadelphia Phillies for 1st place in the National League East, 5 games. In 2022 the Braves walked down the New York Mets and won the NL East after being down ELEVEN games after the All-Star Break! Not all hope is lost, and while the Braves have a lot of work to do to get out of this hole, the hole is by no means insurmountable. Andy Bunker and Randy McMichael talk more about the hole that the Braves have found themselves in to start the season, and what they need to do in this first home-stand of the season to start finding their way out of it.
