The Atlanta Braves took on the Los Angeles Dodgers over the weekend at Truist Park, and the Dodgers won two of the three games. That ends the regular-season series between them with the Dodgers winning the series 5-1. This means the next time the Braves see the Dodgers it will have to be in the playoffs, which is not as farfetched as one might think. The Dodgers just overpowered the Braves in the first series. The series in Atlanta was different.
This is a different Braves team that played in the first series. Both Grant Holmes and Bryce Elder pitched well enough to win, with Elder capturing it. Spencer Schwellenbach did not pitch that well, and continues to struggle a little, but he is one of the pitchers in the rotation that you are least worried about moving forward.
More importantly, the offense continues to heat up. It is unfortunate that the Braves will not see the Dodgers again in the regular season with both Spencer Strider and Ronald Acuña Jr healthy, or maybe it isn’t. Maybe the Braves face the Dodgers in the postseason and go in to the series as the underrated underdog and shock the world.
They faced a much bigger deficit in 2021, and were able to fight their way into first place and eventually win the World Series. Andy Bunker and Randy McMichael discuss what the rest of the Braves season may look like as the calendar turns to May.
