(670 The Score) The Braves are now expressing interest in White Sox right-hander Dylan Cease on the trade market, Bob Nightengale of USA Today reported Monday morning.
New general manager Chris Getz and the White Sox have made Cease available as they look to revamp their roster after a 101-loss season. The Dodgers have also been engaged in trade discussions centered on Cease, Nightengale reported. The Orioles are another team that has been rumored to have interest in Cease.
The White Sox and Braves have already conducted one trade this offseason, with Chicago sending reliever Aaron Bummer to Atlanta on Nov. 17 in exchange for five players, including right-hander Mike Soroka and infielder Nicky Lopez.
Cease, 27, is coming off a disappointing season but had been excellent before that. He posted a 4.58 ERA and 1.42 WHIP in 177 innings across 33 starts in 2023. Cease was the American League Cy Young runner-up in 2022, when he had a 2.20 ERA and 1.11 WHIP in 184 innings across 32 starts.
Cease has two years of contract control left. He has been as durable as any starter in MLB in recent years, making a combined 97 starts across the past three seasons.
