We're only two years into the Spencer Strider experience for the Atlanta Braves, and he's already sitting on the cusp of breaking a record held by Hall-of-Fame pitcher, Nolan Ryan.
This is why the rest of America is starting to notice what Atlanta fans have seen for the last two years - Strider is the most dominant pitcher in MLB right now.
That MLB record held by Ryan is 11 consecutive games with nine or more strikeouts, a record set in 1977. Monday night's 13 strikeout, near no-no performance from Strider was his ninth in a row, breaking the Braves record held by John Smoltz.
It was going to be interesting to see how Strider followed up his runner-up Rookie of the Year, 11-5, 202 strikeouts, 2.67 ERA 2022 season. So far, all he's done is rack up 49 strikeouts in just 30 innings of work, which puts him on a ridiculous 345 strikeout pace in 2023.
This morning's Steakhouse, Steak and Sandra talked about Strider's near-perfect performance from Monday night, and also how they're running out of words to describe just what he's doing.
"He's a power pitcher, completely in demand, who looks likes very simply the most dominant pitcher in baseball," was Steak's high praise for the young righty. In becoming must-see TV every time he's on the mound, Steak says "He reminds me of Pedro Martinez at the height of his game, because no right handed pitcher was as overly dominant as he was."
And what for the future and the rest of this year for Spencer?
"I'd be really concerned if I were the Mets," Steak said. "Even though they have Verlander and Schzerer, which is great, but this is Spencer Strider's time."
