Don't expect Snitker to change Will Smith's closer role

The Atlanta Braves took 2-of-3 from baseball's No. 1 team, San Francisco Giants, over the weekend.

With all the positives over the weekend, including Eddie Rosario making his debut and hitting a couple of RBIs, what still concerns you when it comes to the Braves?

92.9 The Game Braves reporter, Joe Patrick, joined the Midday Show to talk about to talk about a spot that still worries him.

"Honestly, I don't have a ton of fears with this team," Patrick told Andy and Mike. "I think suring up a couple of pieces in the bullpen is one of them. Obviously there are still some concerns with Will Smith even though he did get the save on Friday. That was one where he gives up the homer and it's just not great signs, and you're having people calling for Tyler Matzek, who's been absolutely lights-out for the last couple of months."

One question remains is manager Brian Snitker's loyalty to Will Smith as the club's closer. Will Snitker entertain the idea of trying another guy in that role with a month left of the regular season?

"I do not foresee a move happening. I do think there are some candidates, though. I mentioned Tyler Matzek already...I know a lot of people won't be super high on this, and I'm not saying that I would be super in favor of it, but A.J. Minter also has closing experience at the Major League level for the Braves."

Patrick said he would also be in favor of putting Touki Toussaint in the bullpen, not necessarily in the closer role but to pitch an inning or two.

"Brian Snitker's just not that guy. You know, some people are going to hate that about him. Some people love that about him, but it's just kind of how he is. Especially this late in the season, if he were to make that move to remove Will Smith from that position, I don't think he's going to wait and do it in August and September."
