92.9 The Game Atlanta Braves insider Grant McAuley joined Dukes and Bell for his regular appearance on the show and talked about how he thinks the Braves should stack the back end of the bullpen in high leverage situations.
McAuley talked about who should be used as the high leverage relievers out of Braves pen.
“I think you go Minter, Iglesias, Jansen and if you have more lefties coming up in the eighth inning maybe you save A.J. Minter for that eighth and use Iglesias for the seventh but I do think that’s the way they’re gonna stack things up. They are paying Kenley Jansen $18 million dollars to be their closer this year and I don’t think they wanna change that dynamic at all,” McAuley said. “Now you do have Iglesias who can give you some save chances, Minter I think can close some games out but if you ask me who the three best closers are to go seven-eight-nine, I think it’s Minter and Iglesias and then Jansen to close things out for the Braves.”
When asked about Tyler Matzek’s role in the bullpen right now.
“He’s still looking for it, honestly, it’s just not been an year where his results have been there, it’s been a couple of miles per hour down velocity wise. I don’t know if the radar gun was right the other day but I saw a bunch of 95’s and 96’s from him and he looked pretty good through three hitters and then things kinda crumbled and came apart for him. I’d love to say I could use him in a high leverage situation but right now I just feel like from a results standpoint Minter, Iglesias, and Jansen are still your highest leverage relievers you got in the Braves bullpen at the moment.”
