There is always going to be debates and hot takes in sports and more times than not, some individuals will take offense to what may have been said about their “favorite” team or player and in the case of 92-9 The Game’s Mike Bell, a beloved coach, as comments he made in reference to former Atlanta Braves manager, Bobby Cox stirred emotions.
“I think [Brian] Snitker did a better job, smaller sample size, than Bobby Cox,” Bell said on Wednesday during the Dukes and Bell Afternoon Show and later shared his thoughts on Twitter and as expected, he comments were not taken well, especially by one former Atlanta Braves All-Star and Major League Baseball Hall of Famer.
“U are…without a doubt…a clown! Only an absolute, talentless, gasbag…would take this opportunity to celebrate a glorious retirement by crapping on the generational GM and manager that ignited the last 35 yrs of baseball relevance,” Chipper Jones said on Twitter in response to Bell’s comments. “U can’t be serious with this post!”, Jones said of Bell’s tweet.
“I’ll die on that hill that basically Snit never had the consistent resources that Bobby had,” Bell said on Thursday as he and cohost, Carl Dukes reacted to Jones’ response, adding he believes Cox had better “generational talent” he managed in comparison to Snitker.
“I understand where Chipper’s coming from and to a lessor extent, I understand where some of Braves fans, who are upset with my comments are coming from,” Bell said explaining he recognizes the timing of his comments may have offended fans of the Braves due to the health of Cox, however he does not believe his opinion should have been taken out of context.
