Ronald Acuña Jr. hit a grand slam to not only put himself in the history books, but to put the Atlanta Braves in the lead of the first game of the most important series the team has had to date, and to top it all off he stole his 62nd base of the year, and got married before the game.
What Acuña Jr. did last night, becoming the first player in MLB history to hit 30 home runs and steal 60 bases in a single game, doing it by hitting a grand slam that gave your team the lead against the team that is trying to run you down for the best record in baseball, and not to mention one of the guys on that team is in the running for MVP as well, when you put all of those factors together, that was Acuña’s MVP moment, and earlier today The Morning Shift explained why.
Beau Morgan thinks too many people are getting caught up in the month Mookie Betts had in August, and forgetting that Acuña Jr. has been performing all season long.
“This is what bothers me that Mookie Betts and this push that Mookie Betts is getting because Freddie Freeman has honestly been the best player on the Dodgers all season, and he’s been smoking hot since June, Ronald Acuna Jr. has been hot since March 31st.” Morgan said
Mike Johnson believes that just the overall talent of Ronald Acuña Jr. and what he brings to the Braves sets him apart from Mookie.
“It just seems to me like as hot as Mookie is, Acuña is just such a generational talent and so incredible to watch play.” Johnson said. Beau also believes that Ronald’s ability to consistently get on base even when he’s not hitting home runs makes the difference as well. “That’s the difference in Ronald Acuña Jr., is that even when he’s not hitting home runs he’s getting on base.” Beaus said
Three games remain in this latest showdown between the Dodgers and Braves, and if Ronald Acuña Jr. has another performance like he did last night. This series will decide who the MVP is.
