The Braves announced this morning that RHP Spencer Strider underwent surgery yesterday in Arlington, Texas to repair the ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow and will miss the remainder of the 2024 season.

Strider made two starts this season, but left after only four innings in his second start of the season April 5th at home against Arizona after elbow discomfort. An MRI revealed the damage to his elbow. While pitching at Clemson, Spencer missed the 2019 season after having Tommy John surgery.

Instead of electing to have his second Tommy John surgery, Strider will use an internal brace to help repair the UCL. This method will push up the recovery process where Spencer could be back early 2025, instead of later in the season.

Strider won 20 games in 2023, and finished fourth in the NL CY Young voting. He led MLB and set a Braves single season record with 281 strikeouts.
