Joe Patrick, 92.9 The Game Braves Insider, is back again with The Sam & Greg Show, giving his insight on our Atlanta Braves. This week during exhibition play, William Contreras got a start behind the plate. Sam Crenshaw wanted to know about the players behind the plate being that Tyler Flowers is no longer with the club.
Patrick believes that there are two catchers that could be on the Opening Day roster, Alex Jackson and William Contreras. Of the two, Contreras is the better baseball player. This does not mean he is a lock the Opening Day roster.
With Travis d’Arnaud expecting to get around 75-80 percent of the starts, the Braves may want Contreras to get the same amount of starts, but in the minors. According to Patrick, both Jackson and Contreras are good defensively but Contreras is just a better hitter.
Patrick thinks that rather it’s Contreras or Jackson on the opening day roster, they are loaded through the pipeline at this position.
