Sal Licata of WFAN and host of baseball night in New York on SNY, joined Dukes & Bell to talk some Braves-Mets with the guys and Sal defends his May prediction that the NL East race is still over and why the Mets will ultimately take the division.
When asked about his prediction that the NL East race was over.
“At the time the Mets had a 10 ½ game lead and honestly when we were discussing topics for that particular day and the producer was like do you want to declare the NL East over, I was like does anyone think that it’s not over?” Licata said. “I didn’t think it was some kind of big revelation, and honestly as I’ve said before to me I never thought anbody in Atlanta would watch, I never thought it was a knock against the Braves, it was more to me about the Mets. I’m not a Mets homer, I’ve ripped the Mets more than anybody but this is a different team, I believe in this team this particular year.”
Licata talked about why the division race has gotten so close.
“The Mets had a 10 ½ game lead it gets down to 1 ½ before last night and everyone thinks here they go the Mets are collapsing again, no that’s not what’s happening the Mets are not collapsing they’ve played ok baseball but the Braves have been red hot. It was more about the Braves run which is not sustainable by the way, the Braves are not gonna to go 30-5 every month or whatever it is the rest of the year, that’s just not sustainable. So you give the Braves credit like I said for being red hot, but it’s not like the Mets have fallen apart.”
