With the Braves season now over all eyes are on what the team will do this offseason and one of the biggest questions facing the team is whether if they will resign slugger Marcell Ozuna. Dukes & Bell talked about that and asked if you would rather have Ozuna back or a frontline starter named Trevor Bauer for next season.
Carl said he would rather have back Ozuna because of the importance of offense in today’s game.
“If you could only sign one guy, Ozuna or Trevor Bauer? If I could only sign one, let’s just say they have enough for one of these guys but not both, I’ve got to sign Ozuna.” Dukes said “The reason for me is you’ve got Fried, Soroka, Anderson, Wright and Wilson. For me I’m letting these young pitchers pitch and big picture if you need to go get another pitch you still have the trade deadline to do that next season. This decision for me is about Ozuna, the things we think matter that gets you to a World Series don’t, you still need offense in this league and for me that’s what I’m looking at.”
Mike talked about the importance of not relying on guys who still are unproven in this league as starting pitchers.
“With Bauer you’ve got a bonafide starter, you ran out of gas in the NLCS because you didn’t have another starter, you need to augment this.” Bell said “You need to go do what the Astros did when they made the move to get Verlander to compliment what they already had and developed. I want both but if I could only have one I’ve gotta have Trevor Bauer, I’ve gotta take the pressure off of these young guys so they can develop and we can have a guy for when we get to the postseason is a killer.”
