Atlanta Falcons fans aren’t the only ones that have been wishing for more sacks by the Falcons’ defense. Falcons’ cornerback AJ Terrell joined The Morning Shift earlier today, and talked about how excited he was when he found out what the Falcons did in the first round of April’s draft. AJ also explained why Jalon Walker and James Pearce Jr. are guys the Falcons “definitely needed".
“Super happy! Once I heard the draft picks I couldn’t believe it. I’m not even gonna sit here and lie, I was super happy. Jalon Walker and James Pearce are definitely some of the guys that we definitely needed, along with the guys that we already have and added with Leonard Floyd. DBs in the backend you couldn’t wish for anything better than a D-Line and a rush and I’m just glad to get to work with those guys.”
Terrell has been an All-Pro cornerback without the luxury of having a single teammate record 10 or more sacks in a single season, and hopefully with Atlanta’s revamped pass rush that’ll change this season, and if it does AJ Terrell and the Falcons’ backfield will be that much better.
The pass rush and the secondary are supposed to scratch each other's backs and help each other out, but over the last few years Atlanta’s secondary has been doing more scratching than the pass rush has, and hopefully this is the year where the Falcons’ pass rush returns the favor.
