Braves starting pitching right back where it needs to be

The Atlanta Braves completed their three-game sweep of the New York Yankees on Wednesday with a 2-0 victory. Charlie Morton returned to his vintage form by posting 10 strikeouts and not allowing a run during his start. Morton’s latest outing represents a much-needed upswing for the starting staff after a lull for much of the second-half of the season.

What a difference a few weeks can make as the team welcomes the San Francisco Giants to town for a weekend series at Truist Park. The only outlier for the pitching is Yonny Chirinos, who is scheduled to start on Saturday.
Chirinos has struggled mightily since joining the Braves by way of being released by Tampa Bay earlier this season. The question remains why Michael Soroka or the youngster Allan Winans won’t get that start after posting solid numbers in his last outing for the Braves.

Dukes & Bell say we can all take a collective breathe after seeing the staff resemble what they looked like in the first half of the season and focus on the stretch run.

“I’m turning to September and seeing how Snit starts to potentially manage this team with rest for certain guys. How are you managing this rotation? And also, how are you viewing some of these matchups when it comes to teams under .500? I want to win as much as much as possible but I want to set us up for the playoffs, that’s the most important thing,” Carl Dukes explained.

When it comes to resting players, typically the Braves shy away from that tactic. With several players including Matt Olson and Spencer Strider fighting for regular season accolades, that may further shy Brian Snitker from resting his starters.
