Ever since Jeff Ulbrich was brought back to be the Atlanta Falcons’ Defensive Coordinator we’ve heard the phrase “attack style defense” from Ulbrich, Raheem Morris, other defensive coaches, and the players.
Friday night during the Falcons first preseason game versus the Detroit Lions safety DeMarcco Hellams put a big hit on Lions’ running back Craig Reynolds that did draw a questionable personal foul penalty flag that former Falcons quarterback and now analyst for the Atlanta Falcons Radio Network Dave Archer called “ridiculous” when he was talking to theThe Morning Shift earlier today.
Dave also said that he thought Hellams’ hit was “a clean football play”, and that the hit "embodied" this new “hard hitting attacking-style defense” the Falcons have under Ulbrich.
“I just thought it was a big time hard hit, and he dealt out a couple more throughout the game, and I thought that was kind of something that the defense wants to have is a signature, they want to be a hard hitting attacking-style defense, and I thought that DeMarcco Hellams kind of embodied that.” Arch said
Dave also said that Hellams made “an impact early on” with those big hits he delivered.
DeMarcco was known for making those big hits when he was at Alabama, and delivering the type of hits that he made Friday will not only help fire up this Falcons’ team, but will also help spread and help other guys on the defense play with the “attack style defense” mindset that Jeff Ulbrich wants this Falcons’ defense to play with.
