Desmond Ridder played a near perfect game vs. Texans

The Morning Shift explains why the Falcons quarterback basically played a perfect game vs. Houston yesterday

After having the worst start of his young career last week in London, Desmond Ridder bounced back in a big way yesterday versus the Texans, and put together the best start of his career.

Ridder went 28-37, threw for 329 yards, ran for a touchdown, threw a touchdown pass, and flawlessly executed the two minute drill to set Younghoe Koo up for the game winning field goal.

After his performance yesterday, Desmond now joins Matt Ryan, Chris Chandler, and Bobby Hebert as the only Falcons quarterbacks with 300+ yards, no interceptions and no sacks in a win.

Also, Desmond Ridder and Matt Ryan are now the only Falcons quarterbacks to throw for 300+ yards with no interceptions or sacks and record a rushing touchdown in a win. Matt Ryan did it in the 2017 NFC Championship Game.

Not only was Mike Johnson impressed with Ridder’s performance yesterday, but he thinks Ridder couldn’t really have played much better.

“I think that was as close to perfectly as Desmond Ridder can play in a game. I know that stats will probably be bigger there will be times where he throws for obviously more touchdown passes, but man when you talk about just decision making, just reading defenses, just getting the ball out, getting the ball in the hands of your playmakers, allowing some of these guys to get some yards after catch.” Johnson said.

Mike finished his thought by saying “The stats will be there if he continues to do those things and do them at a high level because he was about as impressive as I could’ve possibly imagined he was gonna be yesterday in that game.”

The night and day difference between Ridder’s performance against the Jaguars and Desmond’s performance against the Texans is the exact reason why Falcons fans need to stay patient with their young quarterback.
