Does NFL view Raheem Morris as a head coach?

The Atlanta Falcons started the 2020 season with five consecutive losses. Following the firing of Dan Quinn and the installation of Raheem Morris, the Falcons picked up their first win of the season on Sunday against Minnesota.

No doubt about it, Morris was impressive in his first game as head coach of the Falcons. Could he be the guy for Atlanta, or is he even viewed as a potential head coach by the league?

Eric Edholm, of Yahoo! Sports NFL, joined The Jon Chuckery Show to discuss Morris and the future of the Falcons coaching staff.

“Raheem took the long road back… it was a little bit unfair,” said Edholm.

In his only stint as head coach for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers he went 17-31, highlighted by a 10-6 mark in 2010 when the Bucs narrowly missed the playoffs.

He was one of the youngest head coaches in league history when he was hired at age 32. Now at 44, Morris has spent the last five years on the Falcons’ staff and has steadily been working his way back up the ranks.

“If he wins in Atlanta and there’s a strong impression that he’s the guy to lead the locker room, it wouldn’t stun me that he was the best man for the job,” said Edholm.

Could he be the next Falcons head coach, or will the Falcons try to poach a coach out of the college ranks? Time will tell, but Arthur Blank has already said he just might have to go 11-0 to be considered. He’s got one game down, now he just has 10 to go.
